People may love your idea and still refuse to pay for it.
David Paul founded Execution Wise after struggling to understand the compliance requirements for his own business. He discovered that many Nigerian business owners face the same challenge, from identifying the right licences and permits to understanding how to obtain them.
Execution Wise helps businesses find these requirements and connect with consultants when they need additional support.
His journey highlights an important lesson: solving a real problem is only the beginning. Founders must also learn how to earn customers’ trust, communicate their value, and turn interest into sales.
Lets dive in!
David Paul: The idea came from my personal experience. When I was building a business, I struggled to understand the compliance requirements that applied to it. Getting professional help was expensive, and I realised other business owners might be facing the same challenge.
After further research, I discovered that businesses could face fines or closure for failing to meet certain requirements. I saw an opportunity to make compliance easier to understand and more accessible, especially for early stage businesses.
David Paul: Execution Wise helps business owners identify the licences, permits, certificates, registrations, and other compliance documents their businesses need. We also explain how to obtain them and connect users with consultants when they need professional assistance.
Our goal is to make compliance simple and accessible, particularly for founders who cannot afford expensive consulting services.
David Paul: Building trust has been one of our biggest challenges. People gave us positive feedback and said the product was useful, but that interest did not always translate into sales.
I realised that customers need to trust the product and the people behind it, especially when dealing with important business requirements. We worked on building that trust through better communication, content, and branding and it has continued to produce phenomenal results.
David Paul: I have been learning content creation because people want to understand the person behind a brand. Sharing our story and explaining the problem we solve helps people connect with what we are building.
I have also learned to meet customers where they are. Some prefer WhatsApp or direct messages to using a website immediately, so we engage them through familiar channels while encouraging them to explore our platform.
David Paul: Traditional consultants can be expensive for early stage businesses. Execution Wise makes compliance information available through a digital platform, allowing business owners to identify their requirements and understand the steps involved.

When they need more guidance, especially in highly regulated industries, we connect them with consultants. This gives businesses a more accessible way to get started.
David Paul: I would start selling much earlier. I spent a lot of time focusing on the website and technology, but I would now prioritise speaking with potential customers and finding out whether they were willing to pay.
Early sales can help founders understand what customers need, improve their products, and demonstrate demand when speaking with potential investors and partners.
David Paul: You need to validate it. Founders sometimes fall in love with their ideas and spend time and money building products without checking whether people are willing to pay for them.
Positive feedback is helpful, but it is not the same as a paying customer. Talk to potential users, test your assumptions, and learn what they truly value before investing too much in development.
David Paul: I have learned to pitch more clearly and explain what we are building, the problem it solves, and why it matters in as few words as possible.
I have also developed my content creation skills. Building a business has pushed me to learn beyond my existing skills and understand how communication, marketing, and sales contribute to growth.
David Paul: Validate your idea before investing too much in it. Find out whether people need your solution and are willing to pay for it.
You should also understand the different parts of your business before delegating responsibilities. Building a business goes beyond creating a product; you must also learn to sell it, communicate its value, and earn customers’ trust.
David Paul wants to help businesses across Nigeria understand and meet their compliance requirements. The company also plans to expand into operating compliance, helping businesses manage the requirements they need to maintain as they grow.
In the long term, he hopes to expand into other African markets and help businesses navigate compliance when trading across borders.
David Paul’s journey reminds us that a useful product does not automatically become a successful business. Founders must learn to sell, earn trust, and understand what customers are willing to pay for.
Sometimes, the next step is not building another feature or improving the website. It is having a conversation with a potential customer or making that first sale.
Execution Wise helps Nigerian business owners identify their compliance requirements and understand how to meet them, with access to consultants when needed.
